Student Societies Battle it Out in the University Championship
Ahead of the Q4 reports, we at Pinpoint Estimates are organizing the University Championship in estimates – a competition where some of the country’s leading student societies in equity analysis meet to compete with their estimates.
Unlike many other stock market competitions, this competition is not about short-term price movements. In the short term, stock prices are affected by news, sentiment, and other factors that do not always reflect the companies' underlying development. The competition instead focuses on what is most relevant for fundamental analysis: the companies' actual performance.
In the competition, the societies submit forecasts for net sales and operating profit (EBIT) – key figures that provide a clear picture of the companies' underlying development.
How the competition works
- Each society participates through a joint account
- Ten selected companies are included in the league
- All societies submit estimates for all companies
- Points are awarded based on how close the estimates are to the actual figures
- The society that is overall most accurate is crowned the winner
Participating student societies
- Asset Management Group – Stockholm University
- Börsgruppen Asset Management – Linköping University
- Chalmers Capital Management – Chalmers, Gothenburg
- Handels Capital Management – University of Gothenburg
- HHUS Investment Group – Umeå University
- JSA Investment Club – Jönköping International Business School
- Karlstad Finance Group – Karlstad University
The companies analyzed in the league
Each student society has selected a favorite company to be included in the league, in addition to three so-called wild cards. Here are the companies to be analyzed:
- Arla Plast
- Berner Industrier
- Björn Borg
- Clavister
- Dellia
- EQL Pharma
- Munters
- Nordrest
- Premium Snacks
- Wonderful Times Group
The competition begins on January 29, when Munters reports.
Follow the development during Q4
During Q4, results are tracked continuously directly on the platform, and when the reporting period ends, the league and the winner are presented.
In addition to the honor of being Sweden’s most accurate student society, the winning society gets the opportunity to visit Stockholm and meet analysts and managers from banks and fund companies. The visit is an excellent opportunity to see how professional analysts work, as well as to network with future industry colleagues and potential employers.
We wish all competitors the best of luck!
